Hello! I’m Ben Cutler, a freshman studying Industrial Engineering. I’m from Lancaster County, home of the Amish (but I’m not Amish myself). On campus, I am involved in UPUA, Movin’ On, The Engineering Undergraduate Council, and the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers. Outside of class and clubs, I enjoy going wake surfing and wakeboarding and playing soccer from time to time. I chose to come to Penn State because there are so many opportunities whether it is through clubs, research, classes, or just Penn State experiences. I hope that as your At-Large Representative, I’ll be able to make sure that you can experience everything that Penn State has to offer.
- I would like to work with the three caucuses on campus (Black Caucus, Latino Caucus, and the Asian Pacific American Caucus) on developing a Penn State mini-series that gives those students an avenue to explain and share what their lives are like at Penn State. I hope to try and foster a more inclusive dialogue by having a positive and informative method of understanding different cultures.
- Sometimes students are unable to make it to class because they wake up feeling ill. Often all they need is a few extra hours of sleep and maybe some generic medicine, and they are fine to make it to their afternoon classes. Currently, students will be considered absent from class. I would like to implement a system where RA’s would be able to discretionarily provide absentee slips to students who may haven fallen ill without the explicit need for a doctor.
- Finally, I would like to revamp UPUA’s efforts in working towards developing mental health modules to help students in need. The modules would seek to include information about different types of mental health challenges and have coaching on methods like breathing, mindfulness, and specific wellness depending on the type of mental health challenge.
