My name is Brent Rice, a Junior majoring in Finance and Political Science from Quakertown, Pennsylvania. This past year, I served as the Chair of UPUA’s Facilities Committee, working to improve physical infrastructure and transportation on campus. Additionally, I am one of UPUA’s appointees to the Student Fee Board. I have been involved in UPUA since coming to Penn State as a Freshman but I have also been fortunate enough to find involvement in THON, most recently as a Finance Captain for THON 2017. If elected, I hope to work to as an advocate for students and to connect them with the resources to have their ideas come to fruition.
Through my extensive time in UPUA, the most valuable lesson I have learned is that many of our best ideas come from students throughout campus, with various levels of ties to UPUA. I hope to expand UPUA’s reach and presence to outside organizations on campus so that we may better connect them to each other and to available resources. One way of accomplishing this is by expanding UPUA’s WhatToFix program and making the events more frequent and recognizable. I also hope to increase UPUA’s partnership events with other organizations on campus to reach a broader constituency than in previous years. UPUA is in a prime position to capitalize on all of the great work that has been done in previous assemblies and to serve as the primary advocate for students and students rights at Penn State and in the greater community.
