Hello, my name is Chris Chavez I am currently a junior pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Security and Risk Analysis with a minor in Information Sciences and Technology. I am from from the small town of Oxford, Pennsylvania where I graduated from Oxford Area High School in June of 2014. During my first year at Penn State, I got involved in UPUA as a member of the 9th Assembly Freshman Council where I attended Governmental Affairs and Academic Affairs weekly meetings. I am involved in a wide variety of organizations at Penn State and I believe that has given me the opportunity to develop a unique perspective that can support the majority rule and fight for minority rights. I enjoyed my time as a member of the Freshman Council as I was given the opportunity to attend weekly assembly meetings to better understand student government at a large institution like Penn State, the issues we face as a community, and the methods we pursue to resolve our issues. I would be honored to once again serve the Penn State student body as At-Large Representative for the 12th assembly.
If elected as an At-Large Representative, there are several projects I would be honored to take part in. I will dedicate my time and strive to the best of my ability to ensure that my goals are carried out and come to fruition. I would like to hear the concerns of my fellow students and have them voice their opinions in order to seek ways to advocate for their ideas and address all concerns.
· Increased hours of operation for Penn State facilities are necessary such as dining commons hours during finals week as well as gym hours throughout the academic year.
· Bystander intervention programs as well as increased security on campus throughout all hours of the day are essential to ensuring that all students feel safe on campus regardless of the time of day.
· With the recent class gift to CAPS, I hope to increase the availability of resources available for Penn State students regarding mental health resources. Increased hours for crisis intervention and standard counseling are essential to making sure that all Penn State students have the support they need.
· I would like to increase awareness of the several free resources available to Penn State students that are not taken advantage of such as free legal counseling and career services.
