Upon entering high school, I knew that I had to find a way to get out of my small hometown of Cresson, Pennsylvania, and attend Penn State. Rich and endless academic opportunities, strong tradition, and the overall reputation of this university had me hooked ever since I was a kid. From the captain of sports teams, leads in the school’s musicals, and President of the National Honors Society and Speech and Debate Team, I diversified myself to prepare for Penn State. As a Freshman Schreyer Honors Scholar studying accounting and economics, I have developed the skills of organization, trust, integrity, and accountability, traits that I believe I possess not just in career endeavors, but in my overall lifestyle as well. I aim to put forth these same characteristics to improve Penn State, as I seek election as the Representative of the Smeal College of Business.
Improving Lines At Beaver Stadium- The UPUA should work with Penn State Athletic Facilities to focus on improving the process for students entering Beaver Stadium on gamedays. Increasing the number of steel crowd control barricades and ticket vendor booths, or creating more space by moving ticket vendor booths closer to the stadium, are viable options to alleviate tight crowd buildup as students are trying to enter.
Ability to Drop Language Level for Credit- The UPUA should take the necessary steps to allow students to take a lower level language and receive credit for this course. Currently, if a student gets placed in their required level, they cannot drop to a lower level and take that course for credit. This daunting and unfair situation puts both academic and financial pressure on students.
Creation of Online Forum- By partnering with IT, Faculty Senate, and/or other candidates capable of this task, the UPUA should assist the Smeal College of Business in creating an online forum. This discussion board could allow students to post questions about scheduling, specific courses, career development, involvement in Smeal organizations, etc., and receive quick and reliable answers from peers who wish to comment on these posts within the forum.
