My name is Johnna Purcell and I am a junior here at Penn State. I am a student in the Schreyer Honors College and the College of Liberal Arts double majoring in Political Science and Global and International Studies and minoring in Women’s Studies. I am originally from a small town outside of Pittsburgh. I am currently serving in the 11th UPUA General Assembly as an At-Large Representative. In addition to my involvement with UPUA, I am also involved in the Penn State College Democrats where I serve on the Executive Board as club Secretary. I really look forward to serving the student body again in UPUA’s 12th General Assembly if given the opportunity. For the glory.
- Access to women’s health services on campus: I would like to work towards providing greater access to resources related to women’s health including free or reduced costs of feminine hygiene products and increased awareness for University offered services related to women’s health including gynecological services and screenings.
- Diversity and Inclusion in General Education: I would like to work to create a general education requirement that would require that all freshman students take a class from a prescribed course list that would expose them to more diverse opinions and lifestyles for the purpose of promoting diversity, inclusion, and civil discourse at Penn State.
- Destigmatizing sexual health education and sexual health services on campus: I would like to create more programs that emphasize the importance for students to maintain healthy sexual lives and make safer choices. I would like to work to provide more programming that reframes the conversation around sex as a normal and healthy part of life in college.
