My name is Sean Kyle Reilly and I am a Junior from the College of Liberal Arts studying History at Penn State. One thing I learned growing up in the small town of Wilkes-Barre, PA, is that every individual has hopes and aspirations that they one day wish to accomplish. Regardless of how big or small a person’s hopes and aspirations may be, I want to help all students who call University Park home accomplish their goals. Through the practice of my own hard work ethic and years of leadership experience, I wish to become a voice for students who may feel as though they are being unheard in a sea of 46,000 students in University Park. A vote for me will be a vote in the right direction towards an eccentric and honest representative with the best intention of students in mind!
Currently, the three most pressing issues I believe we need to address on campus are the following:
- First, to make sure the Smoke Free Task Force follows through with a plan to create a smoke free campus which is fair and respectable to all students, non-smoker or smoker, here at University Park.
- Second, to raise more awareness for the issues international and transfer students are facing, as well as raising more awareness for programs we have in place to help make their transition into University Park easier.
- Third, to bring improvements to buildings and classrooms, community involvement, and programs around campus which best benefit our education and general experience here at University Park. Former Penn State President Joab Thomas once said: “The University must be continuously recreated, nourished, protected, and preserved to build and maintain a rich and diverse community immersed in teaching, learning, and creativity.”
After speaking to hundreds of students personally, I have also compiled a list of issues I wish to research more in depth in the coming months in order to accomplish a personal goal of addressing issues students personally have with the campus, however big or small, because your input always matters!
