Hi! My name is Tyler Akers. I’m a rising Sophomore here at PSU studying Business Management & German Business, and I’m running to represent you as an At-Large Representative in UPUA! I grew up in Kutztown, PA, which is a small town in between Allentown and Reading. Ever since the awkward days of middle school, I have been heavily involved with Student Government at all levels. During my freshman year at Penn State I have already been involved with UPUA by serving on the Freshman Council and I have served on the Facilities and Academic Affairs committees! I believe student voice is the most important issue here at University Park, as it is the driving force behind any change we want to achieve. I believe We Are all one Penn State, and that students should be the ones making decisions affecting ourselves.
- Increased HUB Resources
The HUB is the center of student life here at University Park and many of us spend the majority of our days in it. Currently there are places to eat, study, and hangout, but I believe we can make things even better. Expanding studying space, bringing in food preparation options (i.e.: microwaves) for those of us who pack meals, and running a laptop/phone charger rental system out of the information desk are a few of these resources!
- Expansion of the All In Campaign
Although All In is only in its first year, I believe its message is strong and powerful: We Are all Penn State. In order to keep that message up, I believe UPUA needs to team up with the PRCC and other diversity groups to host more inclusivity events and promote the message of All In.
- More Blue & White Brigades
Although not a pressing issue here on campus, the UPUA’s Blue & White Brigades is an amazing program focused on promoting Penn State’s sense of community! Currently the buses only run to high-volume football games, but I want to make this service more available for other sporting events!
- Dancer Relations committee (not until fall)
- Professional Management Association (1-2 hr/biweekly)
