Fletcher Port

Candidate Biography:

Hi! My name is Fletcher Port. I am a sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering. Welcome to my page! I have been involved in the UPUA both years I have been at Penn State. Last year I sat on Student Life and Academic Affairs, and these last couple months I have had the pleasure of serving as the Vice Chair and now Chair of Campus Operations.

This last year with Campus operations has been transformative for both me and the committee. The committee is one with great potential, it just needed some guidance. After working under former Chair Graham, I was able to gather some valuable perspective about what would be best for Campus Operations. Now, Campus Operations is more efficient than it has been in almost 4 years. From Bills educating students about transportation options on campus, to Resolutions in support of LLC’s for students with disabilities, the committee has been full steam ahead wokring for students.

That said, I feel a great deal of momentum under my feet. If elected, I plan to use this to my advantage. It would be my intention to not only encourage the continued success of Campus Operations, but work with other chairs in order to ensure all committees understand the various models being used to achieve success. While each of our committees pose very different central focuses, I believe that there is good in understanding what works well for some committees and what doesn’t work so well.

With all committees working efficiently together, I would turn externally. My biggest goal if elected would be to find ways to better connect the Student Body to the University Park Undergraduate Association. We do our best work when it is for the students, but we can only do that when we actually know what the students want. It would be my intention to expand What To Fix Day, and put on a number of other events throughout the year so students better know of us and the work we do.

Lastly, the specific projects I would want to work on – but am not limiting to – are Penn State attacking milestones of better sustainable practices, creating more equitable living options for WorkLink students, developing a dependable student ticket exchange program, and much much more.

I’d love to connect with you, so should you want to reach out, please contact me at fdp5031@psu.edu
