Maxwell Gibbard

Candidate Biography
My name is Max Gibbard, and I am running for an At-Large Representative. I am from Bucks County, PA and I am a second-year student with an intended major of computer science. Last summer I had a software development internship and learned about the engineering process in the professional world. I’ve always had a passion for math and science, along with sports and music. I love watching football and baseball, and also playing the guitar and piano.

Being part of the First Year Council (FYC)
Currently serve as At-Large representative in UPUA
Currently serve as the Association of Big 10 Students (ABTS) Liaison
Attending ABTS Conferences at Maryland and Ohio State to discuss current projects among student governments at other Big 10 universities
Currently serve as vice chair of Student Life
Managed a sum of money to fund Mental Health and Wellness Week
Tabled for Mental Health and Wellness Week
Tabled for Financing for the future
Sitting on the Committee of Justice and Equity
Led workshops with Work Link students about interview preparation and proper note taking skills
Sitting on the Ad-Hoc on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

As an At-Large I plan to…
Promote mental health resources and make them more accessible for all students
Lead more workshops with Work Link students, helping them integrate into the rest of the student body
Advocate for a student-first philosophy throughout our organization
Strengthen relationships between UPUA and other organizations at University Park
Help streamline the process in which organizations can request funding from the UPUA to support their events

I want to listen, I want to act, I want everyone at Penn State to succeed. I plan to help where help is wanted, and be an advocate for all Penn State Students. I see this position as a way to accomplish the collective goals of the student community here at Penn State. I hope to be the person who can facilitate a relationship between students and UPUA.
