Hello, my name is Michael Ferrick, I am a first year student majoring in Political Science and History, I also have an intended minor in Spanish. While currently serving as a First Year Council member of the 19th assembly, I have seen how the UPUA operates and what impact I can have on the University Park undergraduate student community. I am also involved in the Liberal Arts Ambassadors organization, providing me with my skills in public speaking and leadership. To start off, my past work in UPUA has lead me to feel passionate about raising awareness for student mental health struggles, and recognizing that a move towards the betterment of both physical and non-physical aspects of campus life for students should be improved. As a candidate for this office, I am interested in continuing my work with providing better awareness of mental health resources such as Title IX, CAPS, and other beneficial resources for students, in addition to bettering our campus physically to ensure this university is providing proper accommodations for students who may need them, providing essential and favored resources to students which may not already be provided by the university, as well as creating a more sustainable campus for students to thrive in. Furthermore, I am open to taking a new leap into work towards academic policy and ensuring that students academics rights are fairly instituted and respected at Penn State, as well as working to improve certain aspects of academic policy which may currently be viewed as unfair for students. Overall, I intend to fulfill a new goal in each of my areas of focus listed above for the betterment of student representation at University Park.
