Joshua Meert & Samuel Conway

Joshua Meert, President

My name is Joshua Meert, and I am honored to announce my candidacy for President of UPUA. As a proud Penn Stater, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible spirit, resilience, and passion that define our university. From our world-class academics to the unmatched Penn State pride that fills Beaver Stadium, this community is truly special.

We have so much to celebrate, but I firmly believe that there is always room to grow, improve, and strengthen our university for every student. During my time at Penn State, I have dedicated myself to serving and advocating for my peers. Working as a THON Chair for Club Dodgeball and as an active member of UPUA, I have supported student initiatives, enhanced campus life, and made sure every voice is heard. And fundraising for THON, fighting for student resources, and engaging in policy advocacy, I have seen just how instrumental student leaders can be in the fight for change.

Alongside Sam, I aim to champion affordability, accessibility, and student well-being; pushing for policies that support mental health resources, financial aid, campus sustainability, and student government transparency. I want every student—no matter their background—to feel empowered, supported, and proud to call Penn State home. Penn State has given me incredible opportunities, and now, I want to give back by leading with passion, purpose, and a commitment to every student. Because together, we can create a stronger and more supportive Penn State. Let’s make change happen and remember—Your Voice, Our Mission.

Sam Conway, Vice President

Growing up the son of an educator, I have seen firsthand how institutions can either uplift or exclude the communities they serve. At Penn State, I’ve witnessed the incredible opportunities this university provides and the challenges that still need to be addressed. From affordability concerns to gaps in student representation, too many voices go unheard, and too many students struggle to access the resources they need.

Build from the ground up. Lay a solid foundation, support it, and the rest will follow. I’ve learned this while working to support grassroots mayoral campaigns, rallying for safe, equitable AI and educational resources at Fidutam, Encode Justice, and Penn State. Right now, I believe that our best shot at real change comes from strengthening student advocacy, empowering new ideas, and ensuring that every voice is heard. These are the principles that drive our campaign—fostering advocacy, representation, and community to create a Penn State where every student can lead and shape the future.
