Laura Ariza

Hi, I’m Laura Ariza, and I’m running for student government because I believe in the power of community and the importance of giving back. Originally from Armenia, Colombia, I moved to Fort Lauderdale when I was 10 years old. Adjusting to a new country was challenging, but I was fortunate to be supported by Latino groups who helped me adapt throughout middle and high school. Their kindness shaped my desire to help others and be an active part of a supportive community.

I’m passionate about creating environments where everyone feels heard, respected, and valued. As someone who’s always dreamed of becoming an OB/GYN, I’ve learned the importance of empathy and listening closely to people’s needs. These qualities are exactly what I want to bring to student government, ensuring that every student feels supported and that their concerns are taken seriously.

Throughout my life, tennis taught me discipline, resilience, and the power of teamwork. I’ve carried these values with me into my academics and extracurricular activities, and I want to bring them to student government to help our school grow stronger together. I’m committed to using my platform to create meaningful change, whether it’s improving communication between students and faculty, organizing more inclusive events, or ensuring everyone feels like they belong.

I’m currently studying Biobehavioral Health, and I’m dedicated to learning how human behavior interacts with biology. My studies reinforce my commitment to understanding and supporting others, and I’m excited to apply that perspective to student government. If elected, I promise to work with passion, integrity, and a focus on creating a positive, supportive environment for all of us.
