Candidate Biography
Hi! My name is Emma Smorgonsky. I am a first-year student at Penn State from Bucks County, PA, and I am studying political science. I am beyond excited to be running as an At-Large Representative for the UPUA 19th Assembly!
I am involved in Lion Caucus, Sigma Kappa Sorority, THON Hospitality, and I am a newly-recruited Penn State Tour Guide! In the UPUA 18th Assembly, I served as a First-Year Council member and sat in on the Student Life Committee, where I had the opportunity to do research on a long-term campus safety initiative, and participated in other Student Life events such as Mental Health and Wellness Week and Resource Week. I am a first-generation Penn Stater and college student, so I bring an uncommon and new perspective on life as a Penn State student.
Outside of my campus involvements, my interests include politics, history, world languages, going to book and record stores, 60s-80s music, and watching old movies!
If elected, I will stay on the Student Life Committee and continue to work on on-campus and off-campus safety initiatives. I also plan on making Penn State a place where students will have everything they need to succeed. I plan to do this through bringing awareness to all the resources offered to Penn State students, and showing students how they can best use these resources to benefit themselves. I will also bring awareness within the student body to the UPUA’s mission, resources, and past and present initiatives. My past leadership experiences in and out of the UPUA have well-equipped me to take on these projects!
More than anything, I have an incomparable love for the Penn State community. As an At-Large Representative candidate, I am dedicated to making the voices of all students not only heard, but also appreciated. My favorite thing about Penn State is how diverse each and every student is. We all come from different backgrounds and experiences, but we are all brought together by our decision to come to Penn State. I want to hear your voices and bring attention to the needs of all students to the UPUA, so that all students can have the best chance at succeeding at Penn State.
I hope I can count on your support on Election Day on March 27th!
