Vel Shan

Candidate Biography
Hey! My name is Vel Shan! I am a current freshman studying Global and International Studies and Criminology. Welcome! I am running to represent you within Penn State’s student government!

This past semester I had the privilege of holding the At-Large Representative position. I served on the Government Affairs Committee and Academic Affairs Committee. In the short time I held this position I head-sponsored one bill and one resolution. I, alongside my peers on the Academic Affairs Committee, distributed 62 free GRE textbooks to Penn State students. I also head-sponsored an event in conjunction with the Latino Caucus and Sigma Lamba Beta educating Penn State students about their rights as United States citizens.

The success I had in my shortened first term is just the beginning. With your support, if elected, I would like to continue my push to make Penn State a more affordable campus. Utilizing free textbook distributions and providing more affordable resources to students I would like to make your Penn State experience as affordable as possible.

In my short time as At- Large Representative, I noticed a large gap between the student body and the government that represents them. I would like to work toward making Penn State’s government more representative of the student body. If elected, I would do my absolute best to solve the issues that you face every day. That being said, I would like to provide my email: vjs5445@psu.edu. Please feel free to reach if you have any issues, solutions, ideas, or if you would just like to talk. I would be happy to serve in any way I can!

While I am relatively new, I am extremely proud and thankful for everyone within Penn State! I would like to give back to the community by passing legislature to make your experience here the best it possibly can be!
