Candidate Biography
Hi everyone! I am a first-year student from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania majoring in history and political science. Having had the amazing opportunity to have been a part of UPUA’s First-Year Council this year, I am excited by the possibility to continue working on the initiatives that are important to me and advocating for the student body as the Representative for the College of the Liberal Arts and as a Student Senator within Faculty Senate.

As a member of First-Year Council, I had the privilege of assisting with initiatives within the Academic Affairs Committee and the Committee on Student Life. Within Academic Affairs, I was able to assist with both the “Know Your Academic Resources” and the “Know Your Academic Rights” campaigns. I also distributed free test prep resources; this was an especially cool experience for me as one of my chief concerns is ensuring that students’ financial/economic situations do not prevent them from reaching their full potential. Within Student Life, I have assisted in tabling and worked with committee members on their various passion projects.

There are a few missions I am particularly excited to tackle if I am elected. Penn State offers many great resources, but it can often be difficult for students to know where to look for them. As such, one of my main goals will be to spread awareness of and increase accessibility to academic resources, especially to disadvantaged populations. I also plan to promote increased communications and unity amongst the various academic colleges student councils by working with other committee members to plan the annual Student Council Roundtable. Finally, I will advocate for more class diversity, specifically the creation of more math and science courses that are aimed towards non-STEM majors that will emphasize cross-curricular education and enrich student understanding of a variety of topics. This is a mission I would especially like to discuss within Faculty Senate.

I am running to be the Representative for the College of the Liberal Arts specifically because I am passionate about promoting the interests of students within the college. As the humanities and social sciences are increasingly delegated to lesser roles in our society, I hope to emphasize the benefits of a liberal arts education and to ensure that students within these fields have a seat at the table when it comes to University-wide decisions.

During my time at Penn State, I have also been involved with College Democrats, Camp Kesem of Central PA, the Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council, and THON™ as a Public Relations committee member. In my free time, I enjoy reading, going to Penn State sporting events, and spending time with friends and family.

Thanks for taking time out of your day to learn a bit about me! Remember to make your voice heard and vote in the UPUA Elections on Wednesday, March 27th. We are!
