Mark Brown

Candidate Biography
My name is Mark Brown – from the great state of Texas to the greatest university in the world, Penn State; the place we call home. I am running for At-Large Representative in the 19th Assembly and currently serve as a first-year council member. I am focused on keeping top-rated programs, building a strong community, and positioning the student body for success on campus and into our future careers.

Growing up I was the oldest in my family. I played football, served on the leadership council, and was active in my community’s juvenile crime divisions. From the capital of Texas to junior police academy to teen court offices, to the campaigns of top politicians and earning a state-paid salary in a government internship, I was very fortunate to learn to navigate systems early and develop under the leadership and mentorship of my father Bishop Mark Brown and mother Veronica Escobedo Brown. As I aged, I learned from top business leaders, politicians, and even pastors mobilizing communities to advance change. As your Representative, I want to partner with you to co-create initiatives for Penn State. Together we can build change, implement improvements, and impact, influence, and inspire those who come after us.

This year I served our Penn State student body on the government affairs and operations committee. Initiatives advanced included PSU votes debate, PA election registration, and changes for the FAFSA that impact most of us maximizing disbursement of funds.
There is more to be done and I am asking for your vote and support. One active initiative I am moving to advance is providing no-cost hydration stations for all students and families at home football games. Currently, there is no free water available to those who tailgate near the stadium. As your Representative, I want to initiate the implementation of water buggy stations near the stadium. I have begun discussions with the university admin and have been met with positive response. With your vote and support, I can see this through. Many student-led organizations often lack funding for events and just as an organization can petition the government for support, I want to develop a process for UPUA to fund student organizations.

Together we can build a stronger future! Vote for Mark Brown on election day.
