I am running to be an At-Large Representative because I observe UPUA as the inspiration for change for our student body that the university administration may overlook. Our mission and power comes straight from the students from all academic colleges and groups whose ideas can have a strong impact to keep Penn State the university that it is today and tomorrow.
My previous experiences in student government here at Penn State comes from my time in the 18th Assembly’s First Year Council, and that’s where I was mentored by those who shared the same ideology as me; to represent the student body and advocate for change to exceed the standards. During my time on that FYC council, I sat as a member of the Governmental Affairs Committee to accomplish my goal. An initiative that I am extremely proud of was the advocacy of an educational campaign on the dangers of phishing and scam emails that target students.
As an At-Large Rep, I have a number of ideas and initiatives that I’d like to work with in this upcoming year’s assembly. In no particular order, I’d like to do the following:
-Remain a member of Gov. Affairs and join the Student Life committee
-Create a liaison position between Penn State ROTC and UPUA
-Implement more bipartisan events for the student body
-Start an awareness campaign about voter registration and education
-Work with CAPs on providing more resources and education on mental health awareness
-Add more signage around campus about the university policy with motorized scooters on roadways and sidewalks
If we look to expand on the hard work accomplished during this year’s 18th Assembly, it’s going to take a lot of work. However, I believe in the motive of doing things not because they are easy but because they are hard. Thank you for taking the time to read my mission statement, and I hope to receive your support this election day on March 27th.
